AHS Hosts Science Night for Elementary School Students!
A Science Shout Out to Tony Murdock, Vince Martinez and the Science National Honor Society!
Last night the Science National Honor Society held their 4th annual Science Night. This is an event that invites elementary age students from the surrounding community to come to AHS and the SNHS students give demonstrations and teach them about science. There were more than 25 youngsters who attend and they had over a dozen lab stations to visit. There were smiles everywhere and it was hard to tell who was having more fun: the kids or the SNHS students that were teaching them! The theme was Under the Sea and most of the lab stations dealt with properties of water or oceans and sea life.

Engineering Department Saves the Day With Chair Repair
Wow!!! A HUGE Thank You to Mr. McCray and our outstanding Engineering Department for repairing a chair we were thinking was ready for the garbage!
When we mentioned it to Mr McCray he was up in the front office in minutes taking pictures and surveying the damage! That same day, several of his engineers came to the office to pick up the chair and in just days it was repaired and delivered to Coach Devine's office!
Wow... if all repairs could be this efficient!

Mr. Coyle's R.I.C.H Raider Class Wins Donuts
My first period class should get recognition for R.I.C.H. Raider characteristics for their general behavior and accomplishments all year. The class average for assessments is consistently at or near the top compared to my other periods. The class semester average is nearly a 90% unweighted average for the class. Equally important, their attitude and work ethic is amazing. I have never had a class with so many students who work hard in class and in preparing for class. As my first period, they sometimes are helping me troubleshoot and work out the kinks in my lessons, especially with things I have not tried before which happens regularly. Even in situations when they could be negative and critical, they are regularly positive and constructive in making each lesson go well which improves learning for all my students. There is a healthy balance of competitiveness but also cooperation amongst the students. They are a diverse group who show each other great respect and courteousness.

Alpharetta Debate Wins Big in Kentucky
Last weekend, Alpharetta Debate competed at the Tournament of Champions (TOC) in Lexington, Kentucky, which is like the Superbowl for high school debate. The team of Suchetas Bokil and Shivan Moodley had the best finish at the TOC in Alpharetta Debate history. They also finished as the 2nd best team composed of a junior debating with another junior in the entire country. This caps off an outstanding season for Suchetas and Shivan, who will be among the best teams in the nation next year. Sophomore Hargunn Sandhu was a huge help this weekend with helping to prepare arguments.
