 AHS Chess Team made a great showing at the state tournament!  Our A Team took 1st place and B Team took 6th place. B Team won “Best B Team” Award and Alex Jesser and Srihassa Karyampudi won for going undefeated in the tournament!

AHS Reflections!

The reflection arts program is a yearly event where over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in response to a student-selected theme. This 50+ year-old program helps them explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

AHS Indoor Percussion Begins Defense of Class A State Title!

This past Saturday, Alpharetta Indoor Percussion attended the WGI Atlanta Regional competition hosted at North Forsyth High School. This is a sizeable event run by our international percussion and guard circuit (Winter Guard International – “WGI”).  The contest is generally attended by teams looking to compete on a national level to prepare for WGI Finals held later in April in Dayton, OH. Nine units were competing in our classification out of thirty teams in attendance this weekend. Teams came from Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, & South Carolina all to be adjudicated by a world-class panel of music educators flown in from all over the country.

Alpharetta Indoor Percussion won both the preliminary and final rounds, taking home the WGI Atlanta Regional Championship in our class for the second year in a row!

AHS Winter Guard Places 1st in SAPA Regional Competition!

 AHS Winter Guard claimed first place in their class at the Southern Association for the Performing Arts Regional Competition hosted at South Forsyth High School last Saturday. Both teams had a strong showing against the nearly 50 teams in attendance. The AHS Winter Guard will be gearing up for the Winter Guard International Atlanta Super Regional coming up March 25th & 26th where they will go head to head with some of the best teams in the country.

 The Governor's Honor's Program (GHP) is a residential summer program for skilled, knowledgeable, and talented high school sophomores and juniors. GHP offers instruction that is significantly different from the typical high school classroom and is designed to provide students with academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders.

Advisor of the Year!

The Georgia Association of Student Councils elects a high school Advisor of the Year, and this year they have chosen Alpharetta High School's Andrew Bolin!

2023 Valedictorian & Salutatorian!

Valedictorian is the academic title conferred upon the highest ranked student among those graduating from an educational institution, typically based upon the highest grade point average. Salutatorian is the academic title conferred upon the second highest ranking student in the class. Named as such because at the commencement ceremony the salutatorian delivered the salutation (greeting) while the valedictorian delivered the valediction (farewell).

Congratulation to Raiders of the A.R.C.-Team Black! For winning the West Georgia League tournament. This invites them to participate in the State Competition on February 19th in Gainesville GA. Congratulations to both teams Crimson and Black for a wonderful FTC Season.

Alumni News!

Suchetas Bokil is ringing in the new year as the first South Asian president of the Harvard Lampoon, a 146-year-old nationally circulated humor magazine run by Harvard students. Bokil, who grew up in Alpharetta, entered Harvard in 2020 after graduating from Alpharetta High School, but comedy wasn’t a part of his original plan. “I used to love consuming (comedy) but I don’t think it’s ever something I thought of as a serious field to study or dive into,” Bokil said. He chose to major in government and politics, then dove into politics-oriented extracurriculars his first year of college. Soon, he was drawn in by the looming Harvard Lampoon building he called “mysterious.” Bokil applied to the Harvard Lampoon his freshman year but got cut in the final round of applications. It left him with enough interest that Bokil applied again in the fall of his sophomore year and got in. “Not only do I enjoy consuming it and seeing it happen, but the chance to make that comedy is really special,” Bokil said. 

Emory University Barkley Forum Tournament!

    The debate team competed at the Barkley Forum Tournament at Emory University over the weekend.  The team of Eshan Momin and Anish Thatiparthi were the Champions of the tournament!   This is one of the 5 traditional regular season “majors” that all of the top teams in the country compete at each year.  This marks the first time that Alpharetta has won one of the majors. Congratulations to Eshan, Anish, and the entire debate squad that helped them achieve this major championship on the national circuit.
