AHS School Governance Council Discusses Requests For Flexibility


Northside Healthcare Explorers

The students were invited to an informational night, where there were about 225 students attending at Northside Hospital.  Information was distributed about this program. Through an application process, with an essay 28 students of the 225 were selected to participate in the program. AHS had 10 students selected of the 28.  Students will experience different areas of the hospital, guest speakers from all of the below listed fields, and hands on exercises. Students will be working with physicians, nurses and medical technologists from many different specialty fields.

Laboratory
Radiation Oncology
Women's' Services

The 3 hospital locations include: Northside Alpharetta, Northside Hospital Atlanta, and Northside Hospital Forsyth  The above pictures were from our first night of the program.  We visited the Radiology Dept at Alpharetta High School. On October 26th, we will have our second night and we will be visiting the laboratory at Northside Hospital Forsyth, students will be meeting laboratory technologists and hands on experience of discovering their own blood type.

Gloving Gowning In Healthcare Science Class

Students participated in a gloving and gowning experience as part of our infection control unit.  They had to put the items-gloves, gowns, masks, & shoe covers on in the proper order, and more importantly disrobe in the appropriate order to follow the standard precautions to prevent the spread of infection.

French Exchange Students

1.      Jennifer Yoo, counseling intern, teaches the French students about Study Abroad at American universities and what the application process / experience entails.
2.      Guillemette Toutlemonde, French History and Geography teacher, conducts a guest lecture to French 4 Honors students about the French government and elections.  They also have a Presidential election coming up in the spring.  Students not only learn about how French government works, but also have the opportunity to experience a French “cours magistral” (typical lecture).

AP Psych Cognition Unit



In AP Psych we began our Cognition unit with an exercise in creativity. Students worked in teams of 4 to build the tallest structure using 20 pieces of pasta, a yard of string, a yard of masking tape and a marshmallow. Left to right - Megan O'Brien, Katie Lawrence, Alyssa Pulmano and Jamie Levine built the tallest structure in 4th period.
