Our Valedictorian and Salutatorian!
Arnav Goyal – Valedictorian
Arnav is a very intelligent, diligent and well-rounded young man. Not only is he the valedictorian of a very rigorous high school, he also participates in swim and tennis; plays the violin, guitar and piano; and volunteers here in the states and in India. His top college choices are Augusta University, Dartmouth, Emory, Rice, GA Tech and UGA. He would like to be an ophthalmologist when he grows up. I’m confident that Arnav will achieve his career goal and many others throughout his bright future!
Katie Lawrence – Salutatorian
Katelyn Lawrence, fondly know as Katie, is ranked number 2 at Alpharetta High School. Katie states that the most important thing to know about her is her faith which has made her who she is today and has helped her tremendously through high school. Katie has been very involved at Alpharetta High School playing on the Women’s Soccer Team, being involved with Flood (current President), FCA, and Raider Ambassador. Katie is also involved in our community by volunteering with C.A.T.S. (Called Alpharetta to Serve), she tutors and is very active in her church. Katie’s number one college choice is Northwestern where she hopes to major in International Relations.

Leadership Matters Award!
Leadership Matters
I’d like to begin by thanking Dr. Kersey for her kind words. It is a pleasure to work with such outstanding people, people who care deeply for students and know the seriousness and importance of our work. Our team is a blessing… and a bit of a curse when it comes time to selecting just one person to honor. We ALL work hard. We are ALL filled with such passion. We ALL add value to AHS. And I am inspired by you ALL and what you offer AHS.
After much thought, however, I decided to gush a bit on the person who helped me most when I transitioned into leadership. When I became a department chair, there was one person I looked to for guidance and encouragement. He was an original Raider who voiced his opinions ardently, stood up for his beliefs, and made us all stop and think about our decisions. All in all, he was kinda like a respectful version of an old-west gun slinger. And he still is.
Since then I have gotten to know Mike Nance even better and always walk away from our conversations feeling honored to work with such an amazing individual. His content knowledge is deep and varied. If you have not been in his room to experience his story telling and masterful questioning techniques, you have missed a good time. When we needed another AP Art History teacher last year, he took on the challenge and taught three different AP courses.
He leads his department with high-expectations and understanding. His feedback is specific and to the point; he expects the best from his teachers and they deliver. For years he has required thoughtful reflection on AP scores and EOC scores. He attends and closely monitors the PLCs in Social Studies especially when there are issues. He amps up “The Silver Fox” the charm in parent meetings and successfully supports his staff while supporting students and parents. His department adores AND respects him.
Lastly, he goes beyond what is necessary. He has been a head coach of a varsity sport almost every year and devotes himself to his players. Last semester he led a RTI English Anchor Time and did everything he could to care for his at-risk students. Over the years he has led many initiatives and represented AHS well at the county, state, and national levels.
Mike Nance, you make me want to be a better educator. Thank you, for all you have done for AHS. You inspire us all!
Spanish Conference at AHS
Dr. Beatriz Torrealba is an immigration lawyer, with more than 10 years of experience in Georgia. The conference was conducted in Spanish for AP Spanish and Spanish 4 Honor students.
The conference was about the “dreamers”. Who they are, what is their origin, and what economic and social challenges they are actually facing in American society.

National Signing Day: Pierce Cusick
Pierce is one of the most intelligent young men I have ever been around, especially on the football field. In his four years in the AHS football program, he went from being a “role player” to a major contributor on the offensive line, and one of our most trustworthy players. As a two-year starter, Pierce leaves a huge vacancy that will need to be filled by our younger players next season. I am confident that he has put forth his greatest effort in influencing and preparing those underclassmen to accept the challenge in his absence.

His work-ethic, leadership and determination were what set him apart from other players, and it will be greatly missed in our school community.

Destiny is a very charismatic and a personable and caring young woman. She is smart, loving, and helpful. Although she may have the most kills for the entire state of Georgia she also loves to sing, dance, and be quite silly. She is an excellent student maintaining an A average and is a natural leader. Her presence this year on the Volleyball team helped us get crowds like never before. Crowds who were intensely into our games and supported us to the very end because of her influence., Destiny is a positive, enthusiastic, and genuine young woman who will be successful in anything she does.
