The Alpharetta High School Foundation Raises $21,000 For School Funding
As many of you are aware there have been some significant budget reductions to Fulton County schools, including our very own AHS. In response to the county cuts, leadership at our award winning high school requested assistance from the Foundation. After several meetings and detailed discussion, it was decided to make a contribution of $21,000 to offset decreased funds coming from Fulton County Schools.
While the mission of the Foundation is not to fund normal, ongoing operations of the school, the Foundation felt this was an opportunity to assist in keeping AHS a vibrant and productive educational institution. By helping AHS overcome the county budget shortfall this year, we are sustaining not only subjects like art & math but school supplies as well. This donation is a move toward short term success while as a community we come up with more means to raise funds for any future budget shortfalls.
Below is a list of the funds requested from AHS leadership and provided for by the Foundation donation mentioned above.
We encourage anyone looking to get involved and make a donation to contact the board anytime about membership initiatives, donations and roles. Let's continue to be the community that cares and steps up in uncertain times. We need you and your support to keep AHS a top state, regional and national high school.
- Tools and hardware for Art department

We encourage anyone looking to get involved and make a donation to contact the board anytime about membership initiatives, donations and roles. Let's continue to be the community that cares and steps up in uncertain times. We need you and your support to keep AHS a top state, regional and national high school.

AP US Government Classes Meet With Representative Karen Handel
On October 17th students in Mrs. Ivey’s first and second period AP US Government classes, and students in Mr. Crump’s first period AP US Government class, had the opportunity to meet with Representative Karen Handel. This was a great opportunity for our students to learn from an elected politician about what it’s really like to campaign and serve in Congress. Mrs. Handel spoke about campaigns and elections, as well as answering some thoughtful questions from our students.

Mrs. Bostick Language Arts Class
Students are “Mining for Quotes.” Next week students will have a graded discussion. Students have been reading Cry the Beloved Country and focusing our annotations, graphic organizers, small discussions on the 3 power standards for the unit: analyzing theme, complex characters, and structure choices. Tiered reading groups are cycling through 5 topic stations (the topics are also aligned to one or two of the power standards) where they can discuss the topic in order decide their position and then help one another find quotes and put them on note cards. Students won’t know the specific questions before the discussion but all questions fall under the umbrella of the topics. They will already have some ideas of what they think and will have gathered relevant text to support their opinions. The discussion will primarily be students debating their ideas, using text and analysis to create logical and valid arguments where the text is ambiguous.
