Forensics class
Students in AHS’ forensic science class performed a blood spatter lab Friday (2/26) outdoors.   They used imitation blood to simulate spatter patterns while walking and running.   They learned that the speed of the person’s gait affects the shape of the spatter markings (more circular or more oval) and that the “spines” extending out from the primary blood drop can tell investigators which way the person is moving.   Mathematical equation(s) can then be used to find the person’s approximate speed.

AHS forensic science is currently in its second year in Fulton County BOE curriculum.   It is a senior elective in which students earn credit towards their science graduation requirement.   Students study a variety of CSI type topics including, but not limited to blood spatter analysis, DNA analysis, fingerprints, hair and fiber evidence, glass, handwriting and document evidence, fire/ arson, firearms/ ballistics, etc.

Legally Blonde the Musical coming soon

Alpharetta High School’s Theatre will come to life with the spring musical “LEGALLY BLONDE, The Musical” on March 17th. This multiple Tony and Olivier Awardwinning, critically acclaimed musical is the all-singing, all-dancing romantic comedy about knowing who you are and showing what you've got! Andrew Fu is named PAGE STAR Student

Andrew Fu, a high school senior, has been named 2016 PAGE STAR Student for Alpharetta High
School.  The announcement was made today by Julie Goldberg, President of the Midtown Atlanta
Rotary Club, local sponsor of the Fulton County STAR program.  Fu, of Alpharetta, selected Anthony Murdock, AP Physics teacher at Alpharetta High School, as his STAR teacher. "We are very proud of Mr. Fu and Mr. Murdock and the academic excellence they exemplify at Alpharetta High School.  We are thrilled to recognize them for their accomplishments." said Mrs. Goldberg.

The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, now in its 58th year, is
sponsored, administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educations (PAGE) Foundation. Since its inception, the STAR program has honored nearly 25,500 students and
the teachers they have selected as having had the most influence on their academic achievement.
To obtain the 2016 STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single
test date on the three-part SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

STAR begins each year in participating high schools throughout Georgia when the STAR Student is
named and chooses a STAR Teacher to share in this recognition.  The students and their teachers
are honored by their schools and receive special recognition in their communities from one of the
more than 165 statewide civic organizations and businesses that serve as local sponsors of the
STAR program.  Students then compete for school system titles, and those winners compete for
region honors. Region winners compete for the honor of being named State PAGE STAR Student.
STAR Teachers continue on with their STAR Students at every level of the program.

As a 501(c)(3) organization, the PAGE Foundation supports PAGE, encouraging and receiving
charitable gifts that advance the association’s core business and PAGE Foundation programs such
as PAGE STAR, PAGE Foundation Scholarships, the PAGE Academic Bowl for Middle Grades, the
PAGE Georgia Academic Decathlon and PAGE TV. To learn more about the PAGE Foundation and
to donate, please visit www.pagefoundation.org.

The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE), the parent organization of the PAGE
Foundation, is a statewide professional association of more than 90,000 teachers, administrators and support personnel. PAGE provides professional learning to enhance competence and confidence, build leadership and increase student achievement, while providing the best membership, legislative and legal services and support.

On October 9th, 2015, the Alpharetta High School PTSA, in partnership with Northside Hospital’s Cancer Institute, will celebrate its annual Pink Out event. This event began in 2011 as a way to celebrate and remember family and friends in the Raider Nation community who have or are currently battling breast cancer. This year’s honorees will be brought front and center to the AHS field as they are presented with a bouquet of flowers from our vice principal Mr. Charles Chester. In addition, a school produced video will be shown on the jumbo-tron that celebrates these honorees. At the end of the celebration, pink balloons will be released to symbolize the fight for a cure to beat Breast Cancer.
The AHS PTSA Pink Out committee does a great job of representing the Raider Community. The committee members represent band, football, cheer, trainers and Webb Bridge Middle School. This committee begins preparations for the Pink Out event in the summer. In addition, the students and their families come together for the night to represent AHS and show support of this great cause.
The AHS PTSA donates the funds raised during Pink Out through t-shirt sales and concessions to Northside Hospital’s Cancer Institute, as well as an AHS scholarship for seniors involved in the scholarship application process.

A special thank you to this year’s committee:
