The Accelerated Geometry students completed a design build
challenge. Using only one quarter box of
Vermicelli pasta and 50 mini-marshmallows, student teams competed to build a
choice of either a bridge or ride. The
requirements, by visual inspection, were to contain 3 circles, 4 rectangles, 5
triangles, and one square. The purpose
of this problem-based project is not finding numerical values or using
procedures. It is instead a use of
creativity and design build to satisfy specific geometric components by visual
inspection and outside pressure on the design.
The final test is placement of various objects on their design to see
how much weight it takes to break the structure.
